Lunch In Strasbourg

A trip to Strasbourg.

Karen had a sandwich with Brie on ciabatta.

Maryann had the filet mignon (pork not beef), with salad (delightful mustard mayonnaise dressing no doubt made from scratch). A little Pinot noir from the area.

Joe had the same thing. It was the special (plat du jour). We could have added frites, but we have been craving vegetables in this delightfully meat-centric cuisine.

Lunch in Gengenbach

Lunch in Gengenbach.

This is the Black Forest ham and brown bread platter that Maryann had. The eggs and tomatoes were really good. It was preceded by an excellent consommé containing pancake-like strips and matzoh like balls containing marrow. Yum.

This is the münster cheese and brown bread plate Karen had. There were also onions and caraway seeds.

Joe had the Jâgertoast, with Chantrelle mushrooms and bacon, covered in Raclette like cheese. Incredibly rich and delightful.

These beautiful golden yolked eggs were everywhere.

Dinner in Lucerne

Raclette – not pictured are gherkins and pickled onions.

A puff pastry with ham and mushrooms in a cream sauce. We were assured that it was a Lucerne specialty. Very enjoyable regardless.

Classic cheese fondue (Emmentaler based). We were told that fondue started as a way to use up stale bread.

The local Swiss wine we had. Since it said Gamay on the bottle, I am guessing it was a Beaujolais. Nice, on the lighter side.

Rösti – ours added bacon, cheese and ham. Awesome.

Apparently obligatory chocolate fondue. Served with fruit only, as opposed to how this is often seen in the US.
